Immobilizer system
2024 Toyota Prius is equipped with an advanced Immobilizer System designed to enhance vehicle security. This system operates through electronic authentication between the key fob and the vehicle's onboard system. Each key fob contains a unique electronic code that must match the vehicle's stored codes to authorize engine ignition. When the driver inserts the key fob into the ignition and turns it to the "ON" position, the Immobilizer System verifies the key's authenticity. If the code matches, the engine is enabled for starting. If an unauthorized key or an attempt to start the engine without a recognized key fob is detected, the system prevents the engine from starting, effectively thwarting potential theft. This security measure provides peace of mind to Prius owners by ensuring that only authorized key fobs can start and operate the vehicle.
The vehicle's keys have built-in transponder chips that prevent the hybrid system from starting if a key has not been previously registered in the vehicle's on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle. This system is designed to help prevent vehicle theft but does not guarantee absolute security against all vehicle thefts.
