Toyota Prius: Before driving

Toyota Prius (XW60) 2023-2024 Owner's Manual / For safety and security / For safe use / Before driving

Before driving the 2024 Toyota Prius, it's essential to perform a few quick checks to ensure safety and optimal performance. Verify that all doors are securely closed, seat belts are fastened, and mirrors are properly adjusted for clear visibility. Check the instrument panel for any warning lights or alerts, and ensure that the fuel and battery levels are adequate for your journey. Adjust the seat for comfort and ensure that the driving mode is set according to your preference. Lastly, familiarize yourself with the vehicle's controls and settings to ensure a smooth and safe driving experience.

Installing floor mats

Observe the following before starting off in the vehicle to ensure safety of driving.

Installing floor mats

Before driving, ensure your Toyota Prius floor mats are properly installed for safe operation. Use only floor mats designed specifically for your vehicle's model and year. Secure them in place by inserting the retaining hooks (clips) into the floor mat eyelets, then turn the upper knob of each hook to lock the mats in place, ensuring alignment with the marks.

Use only floor mats designed specifically for vehicles of the same model and model year as your vehicle. Fix them securely in place onto the carpet.

Always align the marks .

The shape of the retaining hooks (clips) may differ from that shown in the illustration.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions.

Failure to do so may cause the driver's floor mat to slip, possibly interfering with the pedals while driving. An unexpectedly high speed may result or it may become difficult to stop the vehicle.

This could lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.

When installing the driver's floor mat

  • Do not use floor mats designed for other models or different model year vehicles, even if they are Toyota Genuine floor mats.
  • Only use floor mats designed for the driver's seat.
  • Always install the floor mat securely using the retaining hooks (clips) provided.
  • Do not use two or more floor mats on top of each other.
  • Do not place the floor mat bottom- side up or upside-down.

WARNING

Before driving

  • Check that the floor mat is securely fixed in the correct place with all the provided retaining hooks (clips). Be especially careful to perform this check after cleaning the floor.
  • With the hybrid system stopped and the shift position in P, fully depress each pedal to the floor to make sure it does not interfere with the floor mat.

Before driving

For safe driving

For safe driving, adjust the seat and mirror to an appropriate position before driving.

Correct driving posture

Correct driving posture - Toyota Prius 2024-2025

  1. Adjust the seatback angle so that you are sitting upright and do not need to lean forward to steer.
  2. Position the seat so you can fully depress the pedals, with your arms slightly bent at the elbows when gripping the steering wheel.
  3. Lock the head restraint in place with the center aligned with the top of your ears.
  4. Ensure you wear the seat belt correctly.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions.

Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.

  • Do not adjust the position of the driver's seat while driving.

Doing so could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

  • Do not place a cushion between the driver or passenger and the seatback. A cushion may prevent correct posture from being achieved, and reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt and head restraint.
  • Do not place anything under the front seats.

Objects placed under the front seats may become jammed in the seat tracks and stop the seat from locking in place. This may lead to an accident and the adjustment mechanism may also be damaged.

  • Always observe the legal speed limit when driving on public roads.
  • When driving over long distances, take regular breaks before you start to feel tired.

Also, if you feel tired or sleepy while driving, do not force yourself to continue driving and take a break immediately.

Correct use of the seat belts

Correct use of the seat belts in the 2024 Toyota Prius involves ensuring that all occupants are securely fastened before driving. For children, use an appropriate child restraint system until they are large enough to properly wear the vehicle's seat belt. This ensures maximum safety for all passengers, reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Adjusting the mirrors in Toyota Prius

Adjusting the mirrors in the 2024 Toyota Prius is essential for ensuring optimal visibility and safety. Begin by adjusting the rearview mirror to get a clear, unobstructed view of the road behind you. For the side mirrors, use the control switch located on the driver's door. Adjust each mirror so you can just see the side of your vehicle, with the horizon line positioned about halfway up the mirror. This setup minimizes blind spots and maximizes your field of vision, enhancing overall driving safety. Make sure that you can see backward clearly by adjusting the inside rear view mirror (if equipped), Digital Rear-view Mirror (if equipped) and outside rear view mirrors properly.
